A few months ago I did not know anything about water cooling (watercooling). Surfing , however, did and learned many things about water cooling . So I decided to analyze this cooling concept to understand it and those who do not know
I'll start :
Why water coolingThe water cooling has many advantages compared to air cooling . First of all the water has a thermal conductivity of 0.6062 W / (m * K) , while the air is only 0.0262 . This means that the heat can be " removed " from the components of H / U with better than air. The use liquid to psyxeis components allows heat transfer to another location , usually a radiator where the heat can " leave" better. A refrigerator water cooling (radiator) works identically to the radiator : coolant is transported through pipelines and air cooling ducts to remove the heat. Because the refrigerator based anywhere , may be larger than a heat sink ( the thing placed on the top of the processor enters the fan ) and is therefore capable of providing more efficient cooling. Because all the components of the main / Y will cool the same way , there will be fewer fans, and therefore less noise .It is important to know all the parts that make up a water cooling so I shall examine below.
Blocks, Radiators, PumpsFirst of all there are water blocks. Water block is a piece of heat conducting metal ( usually copper or aluminum) which interacts with the chip to be cooled . Copper is generally regarded as a very good cooling metal, with thermal conductivity of 401 W / (m * K) while aluminum has only 237 W, but it is reasonable to be more expensive. Water blocks by different companies have different design . The purpose is to create maximum surface inside the block that heat is transferred through the metal in water. Therefore, the water blocks are a maze of channels within them to maximize the surface and creating a stir in the water which will help prevent "hot spots". The water blocks can be used in the CPU, GPU, Northbridge, memories , hard disks, even in voltage regulators , although a water cooling system does not need to cool all of these components.
The intersection of a waterblock.
Then we have the radiator where the water cooling via fan.
After the water has cooled the radiator, usually returns to the reservoir. A reservoir water cooling should always be used , unless there is sufficient space . The reservoir is not mandatory but are useful because they increase the capacity of the liquid and hence the thermal capacity of the system. They also allow the filling and emptying (i.e. removal of unnecessary air ) system. The same job can make a fillport in absence of reservoir. The fillport is basically a tip - sharp edge with kapapi like screw which allows the user to have access to the refrigerant in the system .
For the transport of water through a water pump system used (water cooling pump). Many systems use water cooling instead inside the reservoir. Generally, a water pump with 100-300g / h is sufficient , but this mainly depends on how many accessories you want to psyxeis . A ydrantleia should be powerful enough to carry the water through the system without being allowed to remain in the water block for a long time. If the water moves very slowly , they will not be able to efficiently clear thermotitita away from the chip. If instead the water moves very quickly , will not have sufficient time to saturate the heat from the water block.
Finally , another part of the water cooling is the hose carrying water. But there is a disagreement on this issue : how much should be the diameter , 1/2 " or 3/8 " ? First size offers higher flow rates than the second , though not necessarily desirable that. As the water moves in the system , it remains on the same time inside the refrigerator regardless of the flow rate . So there are no substantive difference. There are three options for rubber material . The Tygon which is more resistant to knots ( the folds that make tires ) which suggest , in my opinion , the ClearFlex 60 which costs half than the Tygon but not as resistant to knots and fee simple rubber vinyl which is the worst.
compatibilityFirst of all you should check if the water blocks you want to buy is compatible after the CPU, GPU , or depending on the northbridge. Compatibilities of cpu associated with the manufacturer (AMD or Intel): AMD (A, 754, 939 and 940), Intel (478 and LGA775, also known as Socket T) The NVidia and ATI are competitive companies with their own separate design.
installationBut needs to place the components of watercooling ? This will take a little creativity and absolutely free space. The reservoir at the front of your case in the drives. The cooler (radiator) can be installed in many places such as the region of the drives, the upper case ( if your box has a hole in the upper part) or the side of the box you. Sometimes, external refrigerator and outer reservoir preferred than the interior . There are embedded systems radiator / reservoir in the market like Zalman Reserator which allows the user to watercooling the pc when and if you have room .
coolantFinally, it is important to water cooling and coolant to use. Theoretically you can put any liquid into your system but some liquids work better than others. First of all, never use tap water because of the salt ( = electrical conductivity = the mamises ) . Tap water has minerals , bacteria, salt ions that can corrode and short out the water cooling system and the pc you. Another alternative is the deionized water which initially seems satisfactory because a minimum electrical conductivity and thus will not cause damage if there is a leak . However, the water is a perfect solvent , so if the deionized water placed in water cooling will corrode the water block to regain back the lost ions . ( all a matter of chemistry here) . Therefore not recommended in deionized water for water cooling . A good choice is distilled water because it is relatively inexpensive and quite pure . Distilled water will not leave harmful minerals in the system. It also will not corrode the water block you because it is ionized . There are many additional substances can be placed in the system. The water wetter dramatically increases the ability of the system simply by modifying the properties of water in order to achieve better thermal conductivity. The water wetter will also reduce erosion. There are other additives such as colored fluids sensitive to UV rays to be added purely for aesthetic reasons.
The water cooling system can be custom ( something like " handmade " ) or ready (kit)
A simple drawing operation coolers where the water pump is located inside the reservoir:
Report any errors or additions you think .
